Welcome to Zama American High School!

Zama High School is a Department of Defense Dependents School (DoDDS) located on Camp Zama Army Base in Zama, Japan. Zama is in the Kanto Plain Region or central area of the main island of Honshu. The weather in the Kanto Plain features four seasons including a mild rainy period in June, but it rarely snows in this area. Fortunately, the fall colors in this area of Japan are stunning and the cherry blossoms that emerge each April are as beautiful as any in the world.

Zama High School presently has an enrollment of about 300 students in grades 9-12. Our school serves Army, Navy and DoD civilian dependents from Camp Zama, NAF-Atsugi, and the Sagamihara Depot and Housing areas.

Our school is staffed by dedicated teachers and support professionals who are committed to total student development through a diverse and high-quality educational experience. The Zama High School master schedule includes myriad course offerings arranged in a block schedule that runs from 0730 to 1430 each school day. Our block schedule includes A and B days: A Day has four classes and B Day has three classes and a seminar period.

Established in 1959, Zama American High School has a rich, proud history of excellence in serving military families. We are accredited by AdvancED with a current recommended status of Fully Accredited. Our most recent accreditation review briefing can be found here.

At Zama High School, our focus is on providing students every opportunity to succeed. The faculty is committed to exemplary teaching through engaging lessons, challenging curriculum and personalized instruction. We celebrate and support intellectual curiosity for students seeking to maximize their potential. Our well behaved, multi-talented student body extend their learning beyond the classroom by participating in a wide variety of extracurricular activities including athletics, music, drama and highly-competitive Far East events.
